The statue of Tiny Mermaid of Copenhagen fascinates the guests not only due to the legend attributed to it but also its comparatively little size which is beyond their expectations. It is positioned only a couple of minutes’ walk from the cruise ship pier in Copenhagen. Sitting on the rock close to the beach , this Little Mermaid statue is the enticing symbol of the Danish capital. Suffered from many vandalism attempts The original statue is retained by the sculptor’s heirs in an unknown location and the Small Mermaid displayed in Copenhagen harbor is a copy.

The Little Mermaid statue was really a gift to Copenhagen and it was sculpted by Edvard Erichsen following the trend of sculpting the famous figures at that time. It was unveiled in 1913 at Langelinje and presented to the authorities of Copenhagen by The Carlsberg Breweries. The Little Mermaid was sculpted with the inspiration from the fairy tale by Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen in which a young mermaid fell in love with a prince and she employed to seem on the shore to search for her beloved.

The Little Mermaid statue is only 1.25 metres higher and weighs about 175 kg. Often the Small Mermaid statue of Copenhagen is confused with  the Pania of the Reef statue on the beachfront at Napier in New Zealand due to the similarities, however both are distinct ones. There are many copies of this fabulous statue like in Solvang, California Kimballton, Iowa Piatra Neamt, Romania and in Weihai, China outside the old Danish consulate. One particular of its copy is buried with the dead body of the Danish-American entertainer Victor Borge. One of its copy is kept in the Family members Mausoleum Improvement of the Hillcrest Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas.

The statue’s birthday is organized  in different components of Denmark  every year on August 23. The sculpture of the Small Mermaid picturing with painful look at the waters, after obtaining legs and come on land but by no means succeeded in marrying the prince attracts the significant number of tourists coming to Copenhagen all through the year.
