Moorish idol, the Crowned Scythe loves to inhabit in the tropical and sub-tropical lagoons and it is broadly distributed in the Indo-Pacific oceans. Moorish Idol is scientifically known as Zanclus cornutus which is in fact species of the Heniochus genus that are commonly referred to as the “False” or “Poor Man’s” Moorish Idol. Moorish Idol is a best selection for the aquarium simply because it is a peaceful fish and likes to live with non calamitous species.  Moorish Idol is a modest fish which can grow up to about 7 inches, but some adults may possibly attain eight or 9 inches. Moorish Idol is usually located at the depths from three to 180 meters (9.8 to 590 ft), in each murky and clear conditions.

The diet plan of Moorish Idol is not particular as often it is observed to eat or perish every thing. Mostly the Moorish Idol is observed alone and at times it also forms pairs or sometimes tiny schools, particularly as juveniles. Both the male and the female Moorish Idol release eggs and sperm in the water column, leaving fertilized eggs to drift away with the currents. The aquarists suggest that Moorish Idol, the Crowned Scythe is a fairly sensitive pet and it have to be kept in a medium sized tank obtaining one hundred Gallon capacity. They develop nicely if they are introduced into an aquarium in groups of 4, six, ten, or whatever. Delicately chopped fresh or frozen shrimp, clams, squid, and other meaty fares appropriate for carnivores are perfect meals that can be provided to the pet Moorish Idol.
