The Mikado Pheasant, Syrmaticus Mikado is a close to threatened species in the pheasant family, which is endemic to the mountain regions of Taiwan. Mikado Pheasant of Taiwan is found at an elevation of 3000m above sea level in the thick bamboo forests and shrub lands. Mikado Pheasant is nicely identified for its magnificent and brilliant feathers which are also utilized as head-dress decoration in the religious ceremonies of Taiwan.

Like other pheasants, the male Mikafo Pheasant has a larger body than its female particularly the tail is considerably longer. Mikado Pheasant is a shy but really agile bird that loves to create themselves in the moistures circumstances. They construct their nests on the ground mostly in the hidden places like holes and below the rocks. Their mating season is in between April to June and the female Mikado Pheasant usually lays three to eight creamy-colored eggs at 1 time. She is solely responsible for the incubations of the eggs as the Mikado Pheasant is deemed a solitary bird. The chicks remain dependant on their mother till six months.

According to a cautious estimate there are practically 10,000 men and women living in the wild, The Mikado Pheasant of Taiwan is evaluated as Close to Threatened on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. They are mainly endangered due to enormous hunting.
